Age spots are collections of pigment caused by exposure to the sun (also called liver spots and solar lentigo).

Liver spots are flat brown-black spots that usually occur in sun-exposed areas of the body. Liver spots are extremely common after the age of 55 and occur most commonly on the backs of hands or the forehead. True age spots are harmless and don’t need treatment, but they can look like cancerous growths. For cosmetic reasons, age spots can be lightened with skin-bleaching products or removed.

Liver spots mostly appear in areas consistently exposed to sunlight (the face and backs of hands, for example), although they also are occasionally found on less exposed areas. Ultraviolet (UV) light accelerates the production of melanin. Melanin is the dark pigment in the epidermis that gives your skin its normal color. The extra melanin is produced to protect the deeper layers of your skin—creates the darker color of a tan.

Age spots develop when the extra melanin becomes “clumped” or is produced in higher concentrations than normal. Skin discoloration is caused by increased pigmentation. Sun avoidance and the use of good sunscreen protection can help lessen the appearance of both lentigines and freckles.

Age spots are harmless. Age spots range from freckle-size to more than a centimeter across and can group together, making them more prominent. Often, age spots are accompanied by other signs of sun damage. Symptom is a skin lesion that is a painless, flat patch or macule (area of skin color change). Liver spots are the result of a “ceroid” pigment build up in the skin of older people. These latter spots are the outward signs of free radical destruction within the body. There is pre-oxidation of fats—in the cells instead of in the liver. Free radical damage produces waste materials in cells throughout the body, including the brain and liver. Liver spots do not become cancerous. Still, if a spot changes in color, size, or shape.

Age spots can be treated with freezing, acids, skin sanding, electric needle and any other methods which causes a superficial destruction of the skin. Lasers are much more precise and less damaging to the skin because light is used to selectively remove the pigment without damaging the normal surrounding skin. There is also less pain and less healing time required to recover from laser treatment than with non-laser treatments. Liver spots can be lightened with skin-bleaching products or removed by freezing with liquid nitrogen (cryotherapy). Cryotherapy (freezing) or laser treatment may be recommended to destroy the liver spots.

Age Spots Home Remedies

Aloe rubbing – Fresh aloe vera juice or gel on the spots will help to fade them. Use the gel twice a day for a month or two. Juice from the aloe plant is excellent for healing burns and is also beneficial as a general healing agent.

Apple cider vinegar – Combine two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar with one teaspoon of orange juice and apply to the spots, preferably on a cloth or cotton pad that is secured to the area.

Bilberry herb – Bilberry herb slows some of the aging processes and acts as an antioxidant. Take 4-8 oz. of fresh berries, 80-160 mg of bilberry extract (25% anthocyanidin), or 20-40 mg anthocyanosides daily.

Buttermilk – Dab buttermilk on the spots. The lactic acid and other ingredients in the milk are beneficial to the skin. Buttermilk has been used for generations as a skin cleanser and as a beauty aid.

Castor oil – Apply castor oil on the spots in the morning and in the evening, and rub well into the skin. The spots should disappear within a month.

Garbanzo beans – Take fresh or canned chick peas (garbanzo beans), mash about 1/3 cupful and add a little water. Smear this paste on the spots and leave it there until it dries.

Dandelion – Break open a dandelion stem and rub the sap on the spots 2-3x per day. Good for warts, too. Will Greer (Grandpa Walton) used this method successfully.

Ancient Chinese herb gotu kola – Mix 1/8 teaspoon of powdered herb into a cup of herbal tea or add it to plain hot water along with 1/8 teaspoon of ginseng and a pinch of cayenne. This remedy should clear the spots in a few days.

Mix one teaspoon grated horseradish root, 1/2 teaspoon fresh lemon juice, 1/2 teaspoon vinegar, and 3 drops rosemary essential oil. Dab onto your age spots with a cotton ball once or twice a day (less if you have sensitive skin); it will exfoliate the top layer of skin and your spot should lighten.

But some fresh lemon juice on the spots twice daily. If you are going outdoors, wait for the juice to dry as it increases the skin’s sensitivity to sunlight. It may take a few months, but the acidity in the juice will cause the spots to fade away.

Dry skin has the potential to be very beautiful.

Dry skin (by nature, not through abuse) has finer pores than normal or oily skin. In fact, the pores in dry skin are virtually invisible. Naturally dry skin is also thinner than oily skin, which lends it an air of delicacy. Well cared skin that is naturally dry tends to look more refined, more delicate than normal or oily skin. That, in many cultures, is considered beautiful.

You might look in the mirror and see the skin flaking off or worse still, peeling from lack of moisture. Fine lines may be appearing before their time. How can dry skin be beautiful in reality?

All your skin need is a little help, in the form of a healthy lifestyle and the regular use of a good moisturizer.

Let’s start with caring from your skin from within. Your skin lacks oil and water. Include healthy oils in your diet. Drizzle a spoonful of olive oil over your diet. Take fish oil supplements. Give your skin the oil it needs through your diet.

Drink plain water instead sodas or alcohol or caffeinated drinks. Force yourself to drink at least 8 large glasses of plain water each day. If you really cannot stand plain water, squeeze a lemon into a large jug of plain water and chill it. Drink that lemon-flavored water throughout the day.

On the outside, your skin needs emollients. Moisturize your skin religiously. In the morning, after cleansing and toning your skin, apply a moisturizer for dry skin. At night, after cleansing your face, apply a good night cream. After each shower or bath, slather body lotion over your entire body, paying attention to your elbows, knees and dry patches. If your hands and feet are cracked from lack of moisture, apply the cream onto clean hands and feet at bedtime and put on gloves and socks to let the moisturizer work on your hands and feet.

In the past, washing your face simply meant taking a wash cloth and scrubbing your face with soap and water and rinsing it off.

These days, washing your face means applying a cleanser, massaging it in, tissuing it off or rinsing it off with water. Then you soak a cotton ball with a toner to remove all traces of the cleanser and tone your skin. At least once a week, a facial scrub might be applied before the toner, in which a grainy cream or wash is massaged onto skin to get rid of dirt and slough off dead skin cells to keep the skin clear.

Is all that necessary? Do you really need facial scrubs?

Actually, the old fashioned way of using a wash cloth to scrub your skin is akin to what the facial scrubs do. If you simply cleanse and rinse your skin without sloughing off the dead skin cells, chances are, the skin might get flaky leading to dry looking skin that is dehydrated beneath.

Another possibility is that the debris left behind might clog the pores, giving bacteria the perfect breeding ground which can lead to acne. Hence regular scrubs are necessary.

So why buy a scrub when a wash cloth will do?

Personally, I’d rather not use a wash cloth. The thought of bacteria or mould breeding on that wash cloth is enough for me to turn to the first off-the-shelf facial scrub I can find. Sure, use a wash cloth if you intend to send it to the laundry every day and use a fresh wash cloth each day.

Imagine scrubbing your face with the wash cloth. The bacteria and dirt from the skin gets left behind on the cloth. Rinsing it with water wouldn’t get rid of all the bacteria and soap. As you leave the washcloth in the bathroom, which I assume, doubles up as the toilet bacteria from doing business floats in the air. Bacteria from the air happily breeds on the moist washcloth which you then use to scrub your face at night.

Okay, I sound like a germ phobe and if your skin is fine with that, a wash cloth should do.

Alternatively, you could make your own scrub. I tried that. A tiny jar of powdered almonds makes a good scrub. Dip your fingers into it, add water, mix and you have got a scrub. The problem is the almond powder left in the damp bathroom, mould and bacteria thrive. If you do not take care, the moisture in the scrub introduced by wet fingers encourage mould and bacteria to thrive which can lead to disastrous results if you use it on your skin, since that home made scrub does not contain anything that would kill the mould or bacteria.

Another popular facial scrub is plain old sugar. My skin didn’t like it as it was rough. Akin to rubbing sandpaper on your face. Add to the ants that decided to colonize the bathroom, or rather, my sugar scrub, I switched back to store bought facial scrubs.

Cleopatra was renown for her beauty. She seduced Julius Caesar and then Mark Anthony. That alone should be proof that she must have been the most beautiful woman in her time.

Yet British archeologists unearthed silver coins that say otherwise. Her image on those plains were far from the ravishing beauty one expects to see. So why did the two most powerful men in her time fall for her?

For one thing, she was the queen of Egypt. Then again, her suitors ruled the Roman Empire. They could have had any woman they wanted.

There are several possibilities. Maybe society’s perception of beautiful features in those days are different from modern society’s view. Look at the 17th century paintings of nude beauties drawn by Ruben. In those days, those women were considered great beauties. Today, women like that would be considered fat and not beautiful by modern standards. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

One thing remains the same through the ages. Beauty is linked to healthy skin.

The women in Ruben’s paintings had gorgeous skin that glowed. Cleopatra and other egyptian queens are known to follow beauty regimes that focus on giving them beautiful skin. Baths in milk and honey. The use of aloe vera for their skin. All these treatments result in smooth, beautiful skin.

Let’s start with milk and honey:

Cleopatra is said to have bathed in milk and honey baths. Milk contains lactic acid, a form of alpha hydroxy acid which you would find in today’s beauty products. It exfoliates the skin, removing the dead skin cells, causing the younger skin to emerge. Honey is a humectant. It attracts water which makes it a wonderful moisturizer. Bathing daily in milk and honey would give you smooth, younger, softer skin.

If you have a bath tub, you can indulge in a milk and honey bath yourself.

Fill the bath with warm water.

Add 4 cups of full cream milk powder for a really rich milk bath.

Add 1 cup of honey.

Wash yourself with soap and water and shampoo and rinse your hair before you enter the bath.

Relax and soak in the milk and honey bath for as long as you like.

The other beauty treatment that Cleopatra is said to have used is aloe vera on her skin. So did Queen Nefertiti.

Aloe vera gel actually heals the skin from eczema or other skin diseases.

It even clears the skin from acne, thanks to the sulfur and salicylic acid found in it. Both sulfur and salicylic acid are used topically to treat acne. Aloe vera itself is rich in anti-oxidants which are known for their anti-aging properties. That’s not all. It has anti-inflammatory properties, anti-bacterial properties and heals the skin without leaving scars. Using aloe vera topically also leads to clearer, fairer and healthier skin and healthy skin is considered beautiful throughout history.

Name some of the most common beauty procedures in the surgeon’s office these days. Aside from breast implants and liposuction that is, I can think of a few.

Eye lifts.

Chemical peels.

Collagen injections into the lips.

Face lifts.

Yes, I know there are many more to target different beauty problems, but let’s focus on just these few situations.

Too thin lips.

If you want fuller lips, you can buy them. Collagen injected into your lips would plump them up. That would fix the vertical lines on your lips too. You would have to go to a plastic surgeon for this procedure. The collagen that is injected into the lips is bovine collagen, so if a patient is allergic to beef, she could be allergic to the collagen injections. These injections last 4 to 6 months and you’d need touch ups 2 to 3 times a year to maintain the results. These injections can reduce the wrinkles on the lips as well as to make the lips fuller.

These procedures aren’t cheap. Hence the beauty industry has developed lip applications that give you fuller lips when you put that on. These are great alternatives to collagen injections.

One such alternative to these collagen injections is lip fusion.

It contains dehydrated micro spheres of collagen that get into your lips when you apply the lipstick. Once in your lips, the dehydrated collagen seeks out your body’s natural moisture and absorbs it. The hydrated collagen plumps up your lips giving you that pouty look without the needle.

There are other lip plumpers in the market. Instead of collagen, these contain cinnamon, ginger, clove or even pepper. You get that bee-stung look by the cosmetic equivalent of getting stung by a bee on your lips. Basically this class of lip plumpers make your lips plump up by inducing an allergy, causing lips to swell up and turn red. Looks good but not something I’d want to try.

Lines on the skin.

To deal with wrinkles, depending on the severity and where the lines are located, you might want to go for chemical peels, eye lifts or face lifts.

Anti-aging skincare is a big thing with cosmetic companies. Many creams, lotions and DIY kits have been produced by leading brands to erase lines and wrinkles. Some, leading brands even tout their products as substitutes for some of these cosmetic procedures.

Nowadays, some of these skin care products produce visible results that make that visit to the doctor’s office unnecessarily. No doubt no at-home treatment can give you the same results as a face lift, but the results are not bad. Instead of a chemical peel to unclog pores and reduce the look of fine lines, maybe an at home treatment might do the job.

The Olay Regenerist ads make the bold claim that if you don’t want a chemical peel, you could try regenerist smoothing facial serum instead. They do have the disclaimer that says “Results not equal to medical procedures”. Still, it is worth a shot. You can hold of the medical procedures a little longer by using what skin care companies have to offer, and save a bundle.

Staggering amounts of money are spent daily on cosmetics and skin care products that promise to lift, firm and tighten our faces. How many of us use a product for just a few weeks before purchasing yet another product? Do we jump from item to item because we really don’t see a visible improvement and we feel disappointed in the results?

The ads are so compelling and we want to believe that we can look younger and healthier just by topically applying the latest and greatest discovery. Maybe that will happen one day but for most of us, using certain skincare items and cosmetic aids has not been helpful in the long-term because Mother Nature continues to tromp across our faces causing us to look older.

When we look at our faces in a mirror, if we’re over 40, the aging we see isn’t usually about wrinkles. The aging we see is looseness in our skin; maybe we see tired, sagging eyelids developing or a deepening nose to mouth fold or line. Our jaw probably isn’t quite as distinguished as it was a few years back as it slides downward into the neck. Maybe this face is beginning to resemble your older relatives.

Is your face puffy and would you like to see it have more contours? No skin care or cosmetic product that can do that. Even dieting cannot produce the firm, toned, youthful face you remember in your 20’s; in fact, dieting alone may deplete the fat underneath the skin making you look older than your years.

There are several avenues to address a droopy face but only one solution.

Many men and women seek plastic surgery to help correct signs of aging. Facelifts, eye lifts, and brow lifts are prevalent but they are only a temporary solution. The risk involved to one’s health and bank account is dreadful. Infection, loss of sensation, slow healing time and unexpected outcomes are just a few potential complications one can experience from surgical procedures.

Another temporary avenue available is injected fillers that plump up the skin where there is creasing or a sunken appearance. Some injectables paralyze the muscles, relaxing the skin so wrinkles are less apparent. These expensive fillers are being injected at an alarming rate and the patients seeking treatments are younger than ever. Even though these fillers may temporarily ease the look of aging, the results will not last and will need to be repeated many, many times over a lifetime. These fillers only mask aging and the user will continue to experience sagging facial muscles.

So what is the secret to stop an aging face? It’s exercise – Facial Exercise. Just like the body responds to Pilates, weight training, sit ups, etc., your face will look younger and healthier with exercise.

Just any old exercise won’t do; isometric and resistance type exercises work for your face just like exercise works for the body. Facial muscles need exercise; the motions and movements we make daily aren’t considered exercise because there is no resistance. No matter if you’re singing, yawning or yelling; these movements aren’t sufficient to create a younger looking face. The reason is that facial muscles attach to bone on one end and the other end of the muscle weaves over and under other muscles. It is only when special anchoring techniques are applied that a contraction can be caused in the muscle or muscle group; this contracting motion then allows the muscles to become fuller, plumper and more youthfully positioned. This action lifts the face.

Imagine applying these techniques for a few weeks and looking 10-15 years younger without invasive or costly procedures. You create the look of a face lift and save a ton of money with no risk to your health or your savings. You can keep the aging process in abeyance, feel revitalized, and look healthier and younger just by exercising your face a few minutes each day.

What you do now can affect how quickly you age 10 or 20 years down the road. Prevention is better than cure when it comes to premature aging of your skin. Whether you look 10 years older than your peers or 10 years younger than them a few decades from now all depends on what you do now.

Too many late nights.

Whether you party all night long or work through the night to meet deadlines. Not getting enough sleep at night is going to affect your skin. In the short run, you look terrible the next day without makeup. In the long run, your skin ages faster. Some of the women who stay beautiful into their twilight years have always gone to bed early every night since they were young.

Too much crash diets.

Lose weight suddenly then gain it back and lose it again quickly, over and over again. Your skin has to readjust to all that weight gain and weight loss so often it loses its elasticity. Result… you end up looking older than if you had lost weight gradually and kept at a certain weight.

Too much junk food.

All that sugar, salt, additives, artificial flavoring, cholesterol, fat and unhealthy stuff in your junk food all adds up. It gets worse if for lunch, you have a pack of M & Ms on the go. Not only do you get fat, stretching your skin further, you deprive your body of the nutrients you need. Your skin needs vitamins, minerals, proteins and other nutrients you get from fresh fruit, vegetables, meats, grains and wholesome food. The women who look younger than their actual age tend to have healthy diets. Snack on fresh fruit and nuts instead of junk food. Eat proper nutritious meals.

Getting a real tan.

No doubt, lots of A-list celebrities sport that glowing tan. The gorgeous crowd is often a tan crowd. You can get that tan too, but do it without the sun or UV lamps. You see, a real tan is produced when the UV rays of the sun damage your skin. It might look healthy but someone who tans regularly when young usually ends up with leathery skin decades later, more wrinkles than their peers, and that is IF they are lucky. Some even end up with skin cancer. The smart way to get that gorgeous tan is use sunless tanning products.

Not using sunscreen.

You might use all the anti-aging skin care products you can find, but if you skip sunscreen, all is in vain. Sun damage is one of the biggest culprits in the premature appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Whether you are at the beach or going out to get some groceries, your skin needs protection from the sun. Each morning, as part of your skin care routine, apply a sun block moisturizer.

With the huge range of beauty products on the shelves, why do some people still make their own beauty products?

I started making my own skin care products years ago. I got a book about natural skin care. You can actually make masks out of mashed fruit. They are really messy though, but back then, I was really broke. Could not afford to spend on good skin care so I made do with what I could get.

I mashed watermelon and put in on my face. My face felt really clean, but there was a bit of a rash after that. I also read that papaya was used in spas for back exfoliating masks. In fact, the enzymes in papayas and pineapples are often used to exfoliate the skin. These can be rather harsh though, so I have never tried that on my face.

One thing led to another. I moved on to make my own creams.

I went through a period of time where every body lotion I tried from the stores, from the cheap ones to the $20 ones, made my skin itch. That prompted me to make my own body cream.

The cream recipes I found were mainly for cold cream. These were really heavy, oil based stuff. I wanted something lighter. A water based lotion.

A cream is basically droplets of water suspended in oil, kept in that state by an emulsifier. For my creams, I used beeswax as an emulsifier.

I experimented in the kitchen. After plenty of failed experiments. I finally came up with lotion in a texture I simply loved.

A lotion is made of droplets of oil suspended in water, kept together by an emulsifier. I used lecithin for my lotion. Here are some of the lotions I made.

By varying the water based part, using rosewater or tea instead of plain water, you can make all sorts of lotions. Likewise, you can play around with the oil part of the formula, with various infused oils, or a few drops of different essential oils, to change the lotion or cream. You can make your beauty products to your personal tastes, and needs.

I had lots of fun with that. My skin loved these homemade creams when they were fresh. I even made a batch tailored specially for a cousin, using ingredients that she loves. Yet, I have since stopped making them.

Why?

Laziness is the main reason. Lack of time is another reason.

So much care must go into making the lotions which don’t keep. For me, even if I keep the lotions refrigerated, 2 days after making the lotion, if I use it on my face, my skin breaks out. 3 days later, if I use it on my body, my skin itches.

Preservatives are put in commercial skin care products to prevent these from spoiling.

Without preservatives, bacteria, mould and all these nasty things multiply rapidly, spoiling the entire batch, causing nasty reactions on the skin. These homemade beauty products don’t have preservatives. That meant that I had to make new batches of skincare almost every day.

Also, care must be taken to ensure all the equipment is sterile so the final product is safe to use.

Carelessness could introduce lots of nasty germs into the beauty products you make. The water and oil component must be heated to the same temperature and drops of one are added to the other while mixing thoroughly or the batch might separate.

It is so much more convenient to buy beauty products from brands that agree with my skin condition, than to make them from scratch. That is what I have been doing lately. Plus the well known skincare lines are way better than what I can make.

Taking care of your skin properly is essential to that glowing look that personifies beauty. In order to care for all of the important aspects of a woman’s skin, a woman should have all of the following items, which might as well be classified as the top ten facial skin care products.

Each of these facial skin care products has been designed with a specific purpose in mind. It’s important to know exactly what it is that these products can do for you before devising a skin care regimen. After all, what good is it to use a product if you don’t actually know what benefits it can offer you? Worse, yet, what good is it to use a skin care product if you don’t even have the problem that it is designed to correct?

In fact, for the best results, most women will employ a full regimen of these essential products in order to care for their skin properly. No longer is simple soap and water the only ingredients that you need to concern yourself with when caring for your skin.

In particular, each of the following ten facial skin care products should hold a special place in your bathroom cabinet, bath basket, overnight case, or nightstand. Each product has a specific purpose, so be sure to read the following descriptions to make sure that you are making the most of one of your best features – your face.

Facial washes – Facial washes, designed to be used with water, are lathered on the skin to remove dirt, makeup residue, and grime from the surface of the skin. Today’s facial washes are produced by an entire array of manufacturers in a surprising medley of variety.

Cleansing bars – Since ordinary soap has proven to have a drying effect on one’s skin, cleansing bars were designed to clean the face without stripping the skin of essential moisture. The bars are formulated to cleanse the skin, clear pores, and reduce the incidence of pimples and blackheads.

Cream cleansers – These skin care products contain oils that help to dissolve makeup residue and surface dirt. The cream cleansers are good for skin with drier complexions since they are gentler. They have a fluid-like consistency that is light and spreads easily. Plus, cream cleansers are removed easily with cotton balls.

Astringents and toners – Designed to remove excess oils from your skin’s surface, astringents and toners provide a cooling effect that refreshes your facial skin. They evaporate quickly once they are applied to the skin. To understand the difference between these two facial skin care products, one only needs to realize that astringents contain a higher level of alcohol content. Therefore, these products should only be used on oily skin complexions. Toners are gentler and can be used on any skin type, in particular, normal to combination skin complexions. If your skin is sensitive, however, you should avoid these particular facial skin care products entirely. In fact, if the product stings your face, it is too harsh for it and you should dilute it with water or switch products.

Moisturizers – Moisturizers are designed to prevent the loss of moisture from the skin. Different types of moisturizers have been prepared for use on the different types of skin – all of which should use a skin moisturizer. Drier skin dictates the need for thicker moisturizers and so on. Additionally, skin moisturizers are available with added benefits such as UV protection, which provides relief from the harmful effects of the sun’s rays if used properly. Preventing moisture loss in our skin is essential to softer and smoother skin.

Eye makeup removers – Eye makeup typically requires something stronger than an ordinary facial cleanser. Fortunately, a wide variety of eye makeup removers have been designed, including those that help to remove even waterproof mascara. Read the labels carefully to determine which eye makeup remover is best for your particular skin type as well.

Face masks – Face masks are designed to deeply cleanse your skin. Additionally, they benefit the moisture levels of facial skin, particularly drier skin complexions.

Facial scrubs and exfoliators – Facial scrubs and exfoliators should be used while the facial skin is damp. The small abrasive particles contained in these products are gently massaged into the skin to remove old skin cells. This process reveals the fresher skin below, providing that nice clean, refreshed look.

Eye creams – The skin around your eyes is soft and delicate. Therefore, it requires a special type of cream. Eye creams and gels contain special ingredients that are designed to gently moisturize your skin to plump it up again and minimize wrinkling. Additionally, some eye creams and gels are designed to minimize under shadowing effects and puffiness that sometimes occurs around the eyes.

Night creams – These creams are designed to benefit your skin while you sleep. Night creams are a bit thicker than creams designed for daytime use since you do not apply makeup over them.

Taking care of our faces is important if we want to keep smiling. Many women and manufacturers of skin care products consider specific facial skin care products to be essential to providing clear and perfect skin. Essential to minimizing wrinkles is the need to moisturize our skin with the use of the proper skin care products. The use of other skin care products is essential to avoiding other skin problems such as pimples and blackheads. Why not upgrade your arsenal of skin care products today for the face you want to see looking back at you in the mirror tomorrow?

Dark circles under eyes are a common beauty problem. These under eye dark circles give us an appearance of tiredness or illness. They make us to feel worse and are rather detrimental to our self esteem.

What Are Dark Circles Under Eyes?

The skin below our eyes is very thin and is sparsely dotted with oil glands unlike the skin on rest of the body. Due to various reasons the skin under the eyes becomes thin and dry. Veins below eyes appear prominently when the under eye skin becomes dry and thin. This lends the area a dark appearance.

What Causes Dark Circles Under Eyes?

There are various reasons which cause dark circles. Few of them have been listed below.

Heredity

If others in your family have dark circles then there are fair chances of you getting dark circles under eyes.

The thinness of under eye skin is a hereditary character. The thin under eye skin reveals dark veins underneath and appears as dark circles under eyes.

If you are more prone to allergies like itching of skin which is inherited then dark circles under eyes may be caused due to rubbing and inflammation of under eye skin.

Lack of Sleep and Fatigue

Partying all night, lack of sleep, fatigue, sinus infections, pregnancy all these may cause paleness of skin. Pale skin makes blood vessels to appear prominently and give an appearance of dark circles.

Structure of Bone

Eyes set deep in skull bones may develop ark shadow under them.

Exposure to Sunlight

Exposure to sun light increases the level of pigmentation and cause tanning. Same thing applies well for the skin under eyes. When skin under eyes gets exposed to sun it tans and appears dark.

Medications

Medications which cause dilation of blood vessels cause dark circles under eyes. Dilated blood vessels allow more blood to flow through them and these blood vessels look prominent through under eye skin which is very thin.

Nutrition

Poor nutrition leads to paleness of skin under eyes. Lack of essential nutrients in diet or poor diet causes discoloration of under eye skin.

Hormonal Imbalance

Hormonal Imbalance during pregnancy, menstruation, menopause etc cause paleness of skin and this leads to appearance of dark circles under eyes.
